Timber Machining

As a leading timber merchants C & W Berry can offer a huge range of timber and mouldings from stock. Some of these are bought already cut to size whilst some timber is machined down from larger sections as required. In this way we are able to respond quickly to changing demand - needs more.
All our softwood mouldings are produced on-site in our sawmilling facility on Braconash Road. Using modern moulding technology we are able to machine both stock and bespoke profiles.

Moulding

Block on Shaft Our main sawmilling facility has two moulding machines, a Wadkin suitable for timber up to 12" wide and a Wadkin XE high speed moulder. The XE is our main machine and is used to produce mouldings for stock. It's high speed throughput is possible due to the accuracy that the cutter blocks can be made to. A CAD system is used to produce templates and then cutter blocks are prepared on an Opticast system.
To support the sawmill we have a tool room staffed by skilled people; they are able to produce cutters to a customer's specification and then use our quality timber to machine the finished product.
Opticast
Quality and safety are the watchwords for our sawmill, we ensure that the machinery is both modern and well maintained and also employ only quality staff. To assist them, all machines are equipped with scissor lifts and powered roller beds to reduce chances of injury or accident and to reduce bottlenecks in production.

Cut Carcassing

Bandsaw Not all timber is sold in long straight lengths. Often the customer will want thier timber cutting to a variety of different ways. The most common cuts, on offer in our timber yard are shown below.
  • Run Through - Sawn timber is sold as a nominal size. For certain jobs, such as stud work or joists, it is necessary to ensure that the timber is of a uniform diension. We can take our timber from stock and then run it through a bandsaw to remove any variations in size. Our most popular joist sizes are already cut down to a standard width.
  • Tilt FilletTilt - The tilt fillet is commonly used at the edge of a flat roof to form an upstand. Two sizes are sold from stock with others available to order.

  • Taper PieceTaper - The taper is used to form a fall on a flat roof. We stock a popular size of taper but any dimension is available to order.

  • V CutV Cut or Birdsmouth - The v-cut is used on the top of a fence post to take a square section rail.

  • Cross Cut - Any piece of timber can be cut to length. When cutting to length we charge for each cut and also the waste timber. Because most lengths of timber are around 4.5m this means that when lengths of around 3m are ordered there can be relatively large waste factors.
  • PointPoint - A point can be added to the end of a post to aid its insertion into the soil.

King Street

Reichenbacher CNC Whilst offering a bespoke joinery service, our King Street Joinery department can also offer a full timber machining service. In particular, investment in new timber machining technology means that our Reichenbacher CNC machine and fast setting spindle moulder can be used in the production of specialist joinery items.

  • Example MouldingsCNC - The large bed size makes our CNC machine ideal for the production of staircases but the 5 axis head and comprehensive tooling means that it can be used for far more. We have trained staff that can transfer your ideas into our CAD system and then program the machine to produce the finished design.
  • Moulding - Our fast setting moulding machine is ideal for short runs and for the production of "special" mouldings.Example Mouldings
