Timber is a natural product and is as such is a food source for fungi and
certain insects. To protect timber from decay we offer two treatment options, each
for particular situations.
Naturewood Treatment
Osmose Naturewood preserved wood is the name given to timber that has been
preserved with an Osmose preservative system which is based on copper and an
organic co-biocide (Alkaline Copper Quaternary).
These systems have provided proven performance for almost a decade in locations
throughout Europe, North America, Australia and Japan.
Osmose Naturewood preserved wood can be used for fencing, timber decking,
landscaping timbers and construction timbers.
Osmose Naturewood products will initially have a green appearance that
highlights the natural variations of the wood; this will weather to an
attractive natural honey brown colour before finally fading to a driftwood grey
after long term exposure to the sun. Most of the timber that we treat includes
an added brown dye which enhances the initial visual appeal of the timber but
it should be noted that just as the basic green treatment fades, so does the
brown.
As we do not know what the eventual use of our treated timber will be, we
always treat to Use Class 4. This will ensure that the timber remains sound for
years to come.
Apply a weather-resistant finish - Any exposed wood, pressure treated or not,
should be protected with a high quality water repellent finish or stain with water
repellent to help reduce warping, checking, and splitting.
If you desire to apply a paint, stain, clear water repellent, or other finish to
your preservative treated wood, we recommend following the manufacturer’s
instructions and label of the finishing product. Before you start, we recommend you
apply the finishing product to a small exposed test area before finishing the
entire project to insure it provides the intended result before proceeding.
Protim Clearchoice is a range of preservation systems for wood, pressure
treated for use in construction projects that require protection against wood
boring insects and fungal decay to Use Class UC1, UC2, UC3 (see table) such as
roof timbers, timber framing, internal and external joinery and other internal
and external timber projects that are above dpc/ground level.
When using Protim Clearchoice in external applications it will need to be
coated with a suitable external coating which will be maintained in service.
The treatment is applied by immersion in the fluid at a low pressure using our
recently upgraded on-site plant.
