Sand & Stone Ballast (1)

Sand and stone ballast is a mixture of sharp sand and small stones or gravel that is used to create a relatively coarse concrete mix. Primarily used alongside cement and water to secure fence posts or as a standalone sub-base for paths or sheds, Ballast is also popular as a base for patio slabs, footpaths and steps (although a more solid aggregate such as MOT Type 1 or scalpings would be recommended).

With a mixture of 3 parts stone to 2 parts sand, sand and stone ballast is more coarse than concrete sand, but less so than a crushed stone on its own.
